About Me

Hi, I’m Deborah Lang, also known as Debstar, a self-taught mixed-media artist working from my home-based studio in Brisbane, Australia.

I’m known for my bold use of colour, richly textured surfaces and artworks created on vintage book pages. Inspired by the beauty, humour and personality found in everyday life, my subjects range from Australian birds and animals to my signature Lady in Red.

Elegant, confident and a little playful, my ladies in red appear in nostalgic coastal scenes, Australian landscapes and unexpected moments of escape. Their flashes of red have become a recurring thread throughout my work, bringing individuality, glamour and a sense of adventure to familiar Australian settings.

I love experimenting with different materials and techniques, allowing each subject to emerge from layers of colour, texture and mark-making.

Alongside my colourful figurative works, my Lumière collection explores a quieter and more reflective side of my practice. Created on wood panel using layered pigments, rich textures and subtle metallic details, each piece captures a moment suspended in abstraction—evoking light, movement, mood and introspection.

My artworks are held in private and commercial collections throughout Australia and around the world.

At the end of the day, I simply want people to smile when they look at my work.
